The Perception And Treatment Of Madness In Igbo Land

Individuals suffering from a host of mental illnesses and conditions collectively referred to in various Igbo dialects as ‘ara’, ‘ala’, ‘igiri’, and ‘isi mgbaka’ (which all translate roughly to ‘insanity’ or ‘madness’) have been traditionally spurned and confined to the dregs of society for their unfortunate status. At a corner of the roof of an eastern forest, a palm wine tapper leaned on his climbing rope. He allowed drops of sap fall on his forefinger. They came directly from the top of the raffia palm. This concept gained relevance and popularity especially after the civil war where the opinions and the struggle for the freedom of Biafra polarized Ndigbo and perversed the perspective of some of them.

How is it possible that Ndigbo hate themselves. Intellectuals and politicial leaders though in the minority, incite some of Umu-Igbo against their brothers who agitate and fight for the course of Biafra.

On The Willie Obiano And Peter Obi Rift -- Uzonna Ononye Writes

Recent developments and mostly unintended revelations have deflated what could have passed as general, incontrovertible belief that the former governor of Anambra state, Peter Obi and his successor, Willie Obiano, parted ways over the incumbent's non performance and penchant for extravagance.
